Pre-Waxing Treatment Requirements

Proper preparation before waxing is essential to ensure optimal results, minimize discomfort, and reduce the risk of complications.

ALWAYS TAKE A SHOWER/BATH BEFORE YOUR WAXING TREATMENTS. TO KEEP PROCEDURE HYGINIC AND COMFORTABLE.!!!

  • Avoid Heat: Refrain from hot baths, saunas, or intense workouts for at least 24 hours post-wax to minimize irritation.
  • Exfoliation: Regular gentle exfoliation (a few days after waxing) can help prevent ingrown hairs.
  • Moisturize: Keeping the area hydrated can soothe the skin and maintain its smooth appearance.
  • Avoid Tight Clothing: Wearing loose-fitting clothes post-wax allows the skin to breathe and reduces irritation.
  1. Hair Length:
    • Hair should be at least 1/4 inch (about 6mm) long for the wax to adhere properly. If the hair is too short, the wax may not grip well, leading to ineffective hair removal.
  2. Exfoliation:
    • Exfoliate the area to be waxed 24 to 48 hours before your appointment. This helps remove dead skin cells and can reduce the risk of ingrown hairs. Use a gentle exfoliating scrub or a chemical exfoliant, but avoid harsh scrubs or treatments just before waxing.
  3. Skin Condition:
    • Ensure that the skin is clean, dry, and free of any lotions, oils, or fragrances before waxing. Excess oils or products can act as a barrier, preventing proper adhesion of the wax.
  4. Avoid Sun Exposure:
    • Limit sun exposure and avoid tanning beds for at least 24 to 48 hours before your waxing appointment. Sunburned skin or tanned skin is more sensitive and can lead to irritation or adverse reactions during waxing.
  5. Medication Considerations:
    • Inform your waxing technician of any medications you are taking, especially those that can affect the skin, such as retinoids (e.g., Retin-A), certain acne medications (e.g., Accutane), or blood-thinning medications. These may increase sensitivity and the likelihood of skin irritation.
  6. Hydration:
    • Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your appointment. Well-hydrated skin tends to tolerate waxing better.
  7. Pain Management:
    • If you know you have a low pain tolerance, you may consider taking an over-the-counter pain reliever (like ibuprofen) about 30 minutes before your appointment to help minimize discomfort.
  8. Clothing:
    • Wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing to your waxing appointment. Tight clothing can irritate freshly waxed skin.
  9. Avoid Heavy Exercise:
    • Avoid intense workouts or activities that may cause excessive sweating for 24 hours before your wax. Sweat can irritate the skin post-wax.
